[mlbtraderumors] The Yankees have signed Andy Pettitte to a minor league contract, reports Jack Curry of The YES Network (Twitter links). The deal is potentially worth $2.5MM. Pettitte, 39, announced his retirement from baseball after the 2010 season and did not play at all in 2011. He had visited the team’s Spring Training camp as a guest instructor earlier this month.
Holy moly! Who saw that coming? After watching the Core
Four Three drop down to two this off-season, we’re now going to get it bumped back up with the return of Andy Pettitte. Pettitte obviously just didn’t want to miss Mo’s farewell tour… and I’m going to go out on a limb here and make a bold call. Posada will be back for one of those one-day-send-off contracts if the Yankees are either running away with a playoff spot or out of the race completely. Jeter, Mo, Pettitte, and Jorge together one last time. Not gonna lie… it’s a little dusty in my office right now. One thing’s for sure, shit just got real for Phil Hughes. Dude’s got a living legend that’s going to be tossing in triple-A, just waiting to hop into the big league rotation.
